Pointcloud to BIM in ArchiCAD

Scan to BIM in ArchiCAD for research of new ship passage.

We were asked to make a digital twin of the lock complex to determine whether a new ship could pass through.

It is especially important to gain insight into the passage possibilities from the lift bridge (in open position).

3D laserscanning

Using a high-end 3D laser scanner, we took 3D measurements at several positions in order to map the entire lock complex.

- Creating one registered pointcloud

We merged (registered) the measurement data from the various positions into 1 pointcloid.

- Set up 3D model of the existing situation

Based on the pointcloud and the existing drawings, we set up an architectural 3D model of the existing situation.

With this BIM model, the shipbuilder can make decisions in the design process based on accurate data.
